On Wednesday 23rd February the History Society tried a first: a charity social on Wind Street. The concept of the social was "On Wednesday's we wear pink", a quote recognised by many from the film Mean Girls. This involved members turning up to the event wearing one item of pink in aid of the breast cancer awareness charity Cancer Research UK.

The event proved quite a hit and a number of people bought an item of pink specifically for the event! With the help of our sponsor bar Peppermint, we also managed to organize a number of pink drinks, with 50p from the price of each drink being donated to the charity. The drinks went down really well with everyone there and each person bought at least one of the pink drinks, as well as their usual orders, helping us make more money for the charity. We also had collection buckets for spare change and donations on the door. Through these efforts we raised over £40 for the charity, which for the first event of this kind was a big success! Due to the popularity of the social are thinking of running another one like it in the future, where hopefully we can raise even more for charity!
